My 30 Day Creative Challenge

My 30 Day Creative Challenge

I will be honest I have only successfully completed one “30 Day Challenge” in the past year. I have started many but to my dismay not completed them. 30 days is longer than you think and I continue to ask myself “why was I able to complete one but not the others?” The one I did complete was life changing, it prompted me to join a new gym and now I am swimming weekly.

I learned about the “30 Day Challenge” during an Ignite Session at a conference in 2011. Ignite Sessions are made up of various speakers that have 5 minutes and 20 images or slides to tell a story, share a tool and inspire an audience of peers. Matt Cutts, an engineer at Google inspired me with his Ignite Speech about how he challenged himself for 30 days to try something new. He gave examples of the different things he tried. I would say he was more successful than I have been. His Ignite Speech is also a Ted Talk and you can watch it here.

I am now embarking on my next “30 Day Challenge” that starts Monday. A 30 day “Abundant Wild Life” on line workshop created by Squam and taught by Alena Hennesy, Alena is very creative and has an impressive portfolio. Needless to say I was a bit intimidated to sign up for the class, see my earlier blog post. The other challenge for me is the pace of the class and that it is on line. I have never completed an online course. I have always felt I need the discipline of “going” to a class to be successful. My left and right brain will be challenged, organization and creativity.

One incentive to finish is the outlay of cash.  I paid for the workshop and a few weeks ago receive the list of recommended supplies. Many of them I had never heard of and luckily some I already had, this saved me some money since art supplies can be quite expensive.  My ultimate goal is to  get in touch with my creative self, who knows what’s in there.  As the days pass I will let you know how it is going.

I hope you watch the Matt Cutts video I posted (@MattCutts on twitter) it is a little more than 3 minutes. I invite you to challenge yourself for 30 days and pick something to enlighten your life. I bet there is still space and you could join me in the “Abundant Wild Life” on line workshop. Leave a comment below all encouragement is appreciated and share your 30 day challenge who knows it may inspire me or someone else.

An inspiring video – now I’m thinking of more little 30 day challenges I can add in to my life! 🙂

Your call to join the challenge is an inspiration. 🙂 I am so often afraid to try things thinking that I will abandon them and so add to the column of my failures – but doing something for 30 days doesn’t feel like “trying” and it leaves the worry of failure out if as well!
