Stash Hidden Treasures – Schaefer Yarn

I have been going through my stash yarn and finding new projects. This hidden treasure had been in my bin for a few years and I feel so lucky to be working with such a luscious yarn. It is a hand painted luxury fiber from Schaefer Yarns. I don’t remember being as enamored with it when I purchased it as I am now, maybe it ages well.  As you can see the colors are a deep pink, maroons with greens and neutrals. I am not a pink person but with the greens and neutrals it really pops. The yarn is a bulky weight and varies from thick to thin. The yarn make up along with the colors makes it fun to knit with. I have one skein of 300 yards which is enough for a cowl and my first cowl.

Schaefer Yarn names their fibers after women, this yarn is “Elaine” and the colorway is one of a series created for “Memorable Women”.

Color: Jane Addams 1860-1935
A remarkable womean whose efforts toward peace, racial equality, feminism and social welfare brought her the Noel Peace Prize in 1931, but more importantly brought better lives to many thousands of people.

This image is a strand of the yarn so you can see the differences in the widths.

Here is the finished cowl. It is really versatile, can wrap once or twice for a warmer snugger fit.

What treasures are lurking in your stash? If you send me pictures I will create a “gallery of stash” send to knitfunlife@gmail.com .

the cowl looks great, I definitely would not make it as wide as your pattern calls for because it is a bulky yarn. If the yarn was very fine so it had alot of drape, you could make it 10 inches wide.
