Bead Knitting with Betsy Hershberg – StitchesWest Day One

This is a quote from Betsy Hershberg. She taught the bead knitting class today at Stitches West and knocked my knitting socks off. I have always found knitting classes stressful as I try to keep up with all the speedy knitters. Her class was so well organized that I actually made it to the end and finished the beaded sampler. Now I understand knitting with beads. The quote is from the class she was explaining to us that you have to keep trying and showing up if you want to be creative. “Don’t give up”.

Her book Betsy Beads: Confessions of a Left-brained Knitter, has beautiful images and ideas for knitting with beads. I recommend for anyone interested in knitting with beads.

This is the sampler I made in her class. Each row is a different technique she taught us for adding beads to knitting.

Sounds like it was a great class. Not to mention a good time to be had at the whole event. Beads can make knitting richer in texture and also more “sparkly” from a design perspective.

I also think they add that extra dimension and texture that yarn does not have. Thanks for the comment.
